Lady Lions Down Duluth in Penalty Kicks

PK Highlights

The Peachtree Ridge Lady Lions played a critical Region 7, AAAAA match against the Duluth Wildcats at Wildcat Stadium and came away with a hard fought, well-deserved victory, 3-2.

The first half saw the Lions take the lead on a beautiful shot by Emily Edmond.  Edmond received a spectacular pass from Allana Dineen, and found the uper portion of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Despite the Lions outshooting the Wildcats 17-7 on the night, the Wildcats started the second half of with a bang and scored off a corner kick to tie the score at 1-1. The Lions applied tremendous pressure to re-take the lead, but the Wildcats would tally another goal on the counter attack with 12:00 minutes to play to take their first lead in the match, 2-1.

As the clock wound down and tensions rose, the Lady Lions roared back when Shelby Jennings headed an Edmond corner kick in the net to tie the score with 3:00 minutes to play, eventually sending the contest to overtime.

Both over time periods saw very few quality chances for either team, and the match was ultimately decided by Penalty Kicks, which the Lions won 4-3.  Scoring goals in the penalty kick shoot out for the Lions were Baillie Burmaster, Katie Fitton, Dineen and Juliana Luther.  Leigh Warfield got the win in the net for the Lions.
