LAST MINUTE GOAL ENSURES LION'S VICTORY

JV Boy's Win First Region Game of the Season

Thursday night marked the first home game as well as the first region game for the Junior Varisty Boys team. The boys came out strong against the visiting Norcross Blue Devils. Just 12 minutes into the game, the Lions went up 1-0 on an excellent throw-in by Colin BeVier to Juan Palacio who beat the Norcross keeper with a well placed header. The defense and keeper Josh Pence kept the Norcross offense scoreless in the first half.

Both teams continued their hard work in the second half and after a brief breakdown in the Lions defense, Norcross capitalized and evened up the score 1-1 with just 16 minutes left in the game. But the Lions did not let the goal get them down and continued working hard to find the go ahead goal. And that goal came when Juanghyun Nam received a pass at midfield and proceeded to beat the Norcross defense and tuck the game winning goal past the keeper with only 59 seconds left. It was an amazing effort and goal by Nam. After some much deserved celebrating the boys refocused and kept the Norcross offense from equalizing and left the field as 2-1 victors.

“It was an excellent effort from everyone: defense, midfielders (with an extra special game from Jordan Bowens), strikers. The boys gave it their all for the entire 70 minutes and didn’t get down when Norcross scored,” noted Coach LaFleur. “A great win and a great way to start our region play.”

The next match for the Varsity Lions is on February 28 when they travel to Greater Atlanta Christian. The girl's game is at 5:00 pm, and the boy's play at 7:00 pm. Directions can be found here.

The JV boys look to continue their winning ways next Thursday, March 1, at home against Meadowcreek. Kickoff is at 7:30.
