JV Lions Shut Out Mountain View

The Junior Varsity Lions played their third region match of the season and came away with an impressive 3-0 win.  The win brings their region record to 2-3-1.  “We played well tonight and dominated offensively throughout the match,” stated Lion’s JV Coach Tyler LaFleur.

The Lion’s took the lead at the 12-minute mark when Lion forward Edgar Rico blasted a shot on goal that careened off the crossbar.  The ball was one timed into the back of the net by Lion midfield Fredis Herrera sending Peachtree Ridge to an early lead.  “Our midfield worked very hard tonight, and created multiple chances for us,” noted LaFleur, “we needed to convert on a few more of those first half chances.  But overall we are pleased.” The Lions ended the half with 3 shots on frame and 3 corner kicks while holding Mountain View to no shots on goal.

The Lions came out strong in the second half determined to keep the lead.  “The communication was better between the midfield and forwards, and as a result we got some great looks a goal,” commented LaFleur.  After several attempts went wide and just missed, Cesar Adrianzen took a beautifully placed corner kick that found the Head of Lion forward Junghyun Nam.  Nam’s header was true, putting the Lion’s up 2-0, and the match out of reach of the Bears.

After a brilliant save by Lion Goal Keeper Nick Gagne on a Bear’s breakaway, the Lions defense stepped up their pursuit and relinquished very few opportunities the remainder of the game.  With 13 minutes left in the game, the Lion’s were awarded a penalty kick which Rico calmly slotted into the net for the 3-0 lead and the win.

Next up the Lion’s entertain Duluth at home on Monday, March 19th for another region match.  The Boy’s have the early contest at 5:45 p.m. and the Girl’s drop the ball on their match at 7:30 p.m.
