    JV GIRLS 'BACK ON TOP'

Monday's game against Duluth Wildcats brought that wonderful feeling of victory back to our JV girls' soccer team.  After some very difficult games in the past two weeks, the girls communicated much better and showed great teamwork.  Coach York actually had the girls run and condition harder last week to help build their endurance during games.  When the opposing team was quicker with their touches and faster, we were worn down by half-time.  "When down, our emotions get the better of us and lose focus.  We panic and start playing defensively; not trusting each other to play their position at 100%.  Then we don't communicate and work as a team.  If we just concentrated on our own jobs and looked/listened for opening players, then we would play to win! ”Team Captain, Ashley Turner said.

Coach York actually blindfolded them during practice last week to work on acknowledging each team member's voice; depending more on each other as a team to pass the ball more.

It must have worked, because they came out like Winners against Duluth, defeating them 6-0.  Alice Yoon and Briana Bagnasco finished the goals that were beautifully sent to them by Samantha Stamey, Katie Lane, Becca Owens and Taylor McMillan.  Renita Patels has worked hard to defend our goal the entire game since our starting goalie, Nicole Lance is injured for the rest of the season.  Nicole, defending the goal fearlessly in our game against N.Gwinnett, causing her to dislocate her shoulder and pop it right back in (EW!-one tough cookie!)and a severe concussion, still playing to the end of the game!!!  Our Defense players came together this game consistently like an impassable wall.  Kudos goes to the Midfielders for listening to the call from "open" Forwards waiting for the perfect pass to set them up to make the perfect goal for a win!  All in all, the girls remembered that you can't win unless you score!  And score they did; winning 6-0.

The girls play their PLAYOFF GAME today (Wednesday) against Parkview at 5pm at the official Silverbacks Arena off 85South down by Spaghetti Junction.  Parkview has had a strong season and will be a tough rival~ Go Lions!  Remember....you can't win unless you score!
