REGION CHAMPS!

Lady Lions Win Region VII Crown with Victory over Mountain View

Boy's Win 5-2 - Playoff Bound

April 14, 2012: “Thanks!” A happy coach Bill Holleman exclaimed after learning that the Lady Lions clinched the Region championship with a decisive 5-1 victory over the Mountain View Bears on Friday evening. In the match of Lions vs. Bears the Lions had the louder roar.

Coach Holleman was thanking each member of his girl’s varsity squad for their hard work and determination throughout the season. They have had the will to win and finished with a 6-1 region record.

The scoring opened early with a cross from Alanna Dineen to Phoebe Palmer that was headed past the Bear’s keeper for a 1-0 Lions advantage less than a minute into play. After recent scoring draughts it was great to get off to a fast start in this contest.

The Bears tied the game at 1-1 after a miscommunication between the Lion’s keeper and back line defense. The Lady Lions however continued to dominate possession and run of play and had a number of good centering balls and effective shots that just missed their mark. The half ended in a 1-1 deadlock.

The second half saw four different Lions add to the scoring - Amanda Ferry, Katie Fitton, Courtney Miller, and Shelby Jennings all hit string for the victory. Throughout the game the Lions showed their best combination passing of the year. Several of the goals were set up beautifully by multiple combinations. Both Ferry and Fitton finished their plays with shots from outside the 18 that were well struck and placed in the top net. Miller’s goal was the result of a beautiful run from midfield and passes in accurate combination. That was great soccer!

Jennings’ goal was off a PK and just as she has done all year she blasted it in the goal. One just had the feeling as she stepped up to the ball that you could count it up right then.

Cosette Morche and Brittany Gonzales shared duty in goal.

This game should provide positive momentum going into the final two regular games and the playoffs. The Lady Lions will have a #1 seed for the State Tournament.
