REGION COACHES NAME ALL-REGION AND ALL-STAR TEAMS

Men’s and Lady’s Varsity Lions Land Four Players each on All-Region Team

Seven Senior Lions Named to All-Star Team

April 26, 2012:  Georgia High School Association, Region VII AAAAA, is arguably one of the toughest player-for-player regions for high school soccer in the state of Georgia.  Many quality, dedicated soccer players have come out of this region over the years.  It is no small feat to receive individual recognition from your competitors.  Annually, coaches from each of Region VII’s participating high schools select those individual athletes from other teams that they recognize as among the elite players in the Region.  These players make up the “All-Region Team”.

This year’s Region Champion Peachtree Ridge Lady Lions have placed four members on the 2012 All-Region team.

Senior Defender Katey Lippitt – 1st Team All Region

Senior Defender Shelby Jennings – 1st Team All Region

Freshman Goal Keeper – Cosette Morche – 1st Team All Region

Senior Forward Alanna Dineen – 2nd Team All Region

“On behalf of the entire Peachtree Ridge family, I want to congratulate these players on their outstanding accomplishments this year.  They, along with their teammates, have each worked incredibly hard to propel the Lions to the top tier of soccer teams in the state, and this recognition is a testament to their individual will to win.  We are very blessed to have them as a part of our program here at Peachtree Ridge,” stated Lady Lions Coach Bill Holleman.

In addition to the above recognition, special recognition was given to Lippitt and Morche.  “Katey and Cosette were named ‘Defender of the Year’ and ‘Goal Keeper of the Year’ respectively,” elated Coach Bill Holleman continued.  “This is great news for these ladies, the PRHS Soccer program, and our school.  To be named the best at your position in this incredibly tough region is a great honor and it is very well deserved recognition for both of them.”

“Katey’s play on the field is tenacious, but it’s her attitude that sets her apart.  Anyone who has ever attended one of our games quickly knows that Katey’s on-field encouragement of her fellow players makes her our natural leader,” Coach Holleman continued.  “Cosette has blasted onto the Region 7 scene in just her freshman year.  She is one of the best we have seen, and it has been a privilege to work with her this year.  Her quickness and reflexes really differentiate her, allowing her to react incredibly quickly. Her skills were huge assets to her and her teammates in our record setting number of ‘PK’ games this year.”

Lion Coach Bill Holleman was also named ‘Region VII Coach of the Year’.  “It has been my pleasure to coach such a wonderful group of committed athletes,” stated Holleman, “They are really special.”

The Lion’s Men’s program has also placed four members on the 2012 All-Region Team.

Senior Defender Michael Valenzuela – 1st Team All Region

Junior Forward Jeremy Rector – 1st team All-Region

Senior Juan Herrera – 2nd Team All-Region

Senior Kevin Zuluaga – 2nd Team All-Region

“I am extremely pleased for these players and they should each be extremely proud to be recognized in this way.  Every player on our team has contributed and led us to this point in the year - playoff time - but it is good for some of our guys to get recognized for their individual accomplishments too,” stated Boy’s Varsity Coach Ryan Sutton.  “We have been playing extremely well as a team as of late and now it is our time to excel and get the team recognition that our boy’s deserve in the state playoffs – they have earned it.”
