Wednesday, March 27th was another blustery and cold evening as the Peachtree Ridge JVG Lions stood face to face against the Mountain View Bears in the Lions Den. The teams seemed evenly matched as the battle began with both sides moving the ball back and forth. Although the Bears tried, they were unable to find the net, and soon they became frustrated. Midway through the first half, the opportunity was created on a Bear foul and the Lions pounced. From the left midfield, Rachel Havens sailed a beautiful free kick into the box which the Bear goalie could not control, and Sophia Sakers hit the rebound for the first goal of the evening. Although the Bears continued to pepper the goal for the remainder of the half, the Lions held their lead with a strong showing by Katie Lane, Maggie Carr, Rachel Havens, Kenzie Julian, Sarah Isaacs, Ashley Patrick, Casey Mason and Keeper Kelsey Julian.

Nine minutes into the second half the Lions offense pounced again with a ricochet attack in the box. The Bears almost had it cleared when Sophia Sakers scooped up another rebound and passed it to Smriti Singh who made a tight turn in front of the goal and sunk it in. The Lions' stands erupted, and the Bears fans began to growl. The Lions were ahead 2-0. Whether it was the growling from the stands or the cold, we do not know, but the game began to change. Mountain View stepped it up, and despite a valiant effort by the Lions, the Bears scored - not one, not two, but three times in the final thirteen minutes leaving the stunned Lions with a 3-2 defeat.

The next game is Monday, April 1st at 5:55 pm at Duluth. Please come out and support the JV Lady Lions!
