LADY LIONS HEADING TO PLAYOFFS WITH 2-0 WIN OVER MOUNTAIN VIEW

 State Playoff Bracket

On Friday night at Lion's Stadium, the Lady Lions secured their spot in this years state playoff with a 2-0 decisive victory over the Bears of Mountain View High School.  The win takes the Lion's record to 5-2 in Region play, and 9-7 on the season.

With dark clouds on the horizon and impending storms in the Atlanta area, the Lions pushed hard early in the match to ensure their success.  Playing throughout intermittent rain showers, the Lady Lions pummeled the Bear goal with 15 shots during the match while holding the Bear's to just 2.

"The girls played a good game tonight," stated Lion's Coach Bill Holleman, "Glad we could get this game in, I wasn't sure we would beat the weather.  The girls did what they had to do."

Baillie Burmaster lets a shot fly that would become the Lion's first goal

at the 10-minute mark of the 1st half

The Lion's first score and game winning goal came off the foot of senior Baillie Burmaster, as she unleashed a long-distance rocket that found the back of the net early in the match.  "Her leadership throughout region play has been noticeable," said an appreciative Coach Holleman.  "She has contributed offensively and defensively.  She is definitely peaking at the right time."

The Lions were relentless in the attack, but went into half-time with the narrow 1-0 lead.

The second-half found the Lions right back after it, but it was not until the 65-minute mark that Emily Edmond placed and outstanding corner kick on the head of Shelby Jennings who sharply snapped the ball into the back of the net for the insurance tally.  The goal was Jennings fourth of the campaign, and the assist raised Edmond's team leading total to eight.

Leigh Warfield got the win in goal for the Lions, with the Lion defense in front of her only giving up two shots on goal for the match.  "Defense wins soccer games, we saw that at Collins Hill,"  stated Coach Holleman.  "When we play our aggressive marking style in the back, we can play with any team out there.  We have to bring it every game in the playoffs, and I think we will surprise some people."

On Tuesday the Lady Lions take on the Lambert Longhorns at 5:30pm at Lambert High School, Be There!
