On a blustery Spring Friday night in Lilburn, the Varsity Lady Lions made the trek to Meadowcreek HS to take on the Lady Mustangs and came away with an important Region 7-AAAAAA victory to even their Region record at 1-1.

Although the Lady Mustangs may have been lacking overall talent, their effort on the field was certainly impressive. Until the final buzzer sounded, they continued to play hard, but they just couldn’t find the back of the net against the staunch Lion D-Line of Olivia Hall, Esther Cano, Phoebe Palmer and Sumer Culberson. Brittney Gonzalez, who recently returned to the team and Renita Patel filled in admirably at Keeper due to a previous injury to starter Cosette Morche.

The Lady Lions could have easily mailed this one since they were playing a team that has struggled to compete in arguably the toughest HS Soccer Region in the State. Instead, they played an organized attacking style of play as they passed the ball well and put together a solid effort.

Leading the way offensively was Freshman Kinsey Dziwura, who moved up from her normal defensive position and played outside forward. Kinsey benefitted from the Meadowcreek match ups and scored a Hat Trick (3 goals) and had 1 assist. Two of her goals were from perfectly led assists from her long-time Club Teammate Jordyn Missel who continued to display her team first, unselfish brand of play. Briana Bagnasco assisted on Kinsey’s third and final goal of the night. Also adding to the scoring onslaught was Allie Hoxie, Esther Cano and Briana Bagnasco who all scored a goal apiece. Briana ended up with two assists and Sumer Culberson another to round out the Lady Lions attack.

Region 7-AAAAAA play continues on Tuesday against with a game against Habersham County starting at 5:55pm. Please come out and support your Lions Soccer Teams!
